If you’re about to buy a property, you might like to know there’s a way you can keep your purchase price confidential- at least for a certain amount of time.
The way to do so is to request to the selling agent that you would like the price UNDISCLOSED, as soon as you sign the contract, and to confirm that in writing- send them an email. This obliges the sales agent to register the price as “withheld” as sold on domain and realestate.com and to not disclose the price to anyone who asks.
You should also know that once your purchase is lodged with Land Registry Services, (about 8 weeks after your settlement) your purchase price, and your name as owner become public information and anyone can access this info. Sometime after that Domain and RealEstate.com.au will pick up that data and update their websites.
So this technique is really more of a temporary solution, but one you may find useful nonetheless.
