Here’s 2 simple hacks to make sure your home purchase isn’t affected by aircraft noise.
Peace and tranquillity, something we all value highly when we’re looking for a home to buy.
Now one of the positive impacts of COVID has been less congestion, less traffic on the road and of course, no aircraft noise, because there are no planes in the air.
But that also poses a problem because it’s causing a false sense of security in suburbs and streets that are usually affected, and being human beings we have short memories and it’s easy to forget that problems will resume when planes are back up in the air.
So what can you do to check for any potential problems with flight paths and aircraft noise when there are no planes in the air?
I’m going to share with you two simple hacks you can use to protect yourself from making a mistake like buying a property under a flight path.
Hack number one:
Head on over to the website aircraftnoise.sydneyairport.com.au and enter the address of the property you’re investigating.
Now this is a great website. It will show you all of the flight paths of flights taking off, and landing, and it will do so in all of the prevailing winds, because aircraft change the direction of their takeoffs and landings depending on wind direction.
So, as you can see here, I’ve actually used the Marrickville post office as the location to focus on. Marrickville as you may know is a suburb where you should be particularly careful with aircraft noise.
The first screen shows all the typical flights, taking off and landing from Sydney Airport.
Then you can cycle through to view flights depending on whether the winds are North, East, South or West, and the site will tell you which runways are in use also.
Now you can literally see that some sections of streets and suburbs are affected, while others not so much, and that could be a deal breaker for your property, once planes are back up in the air.
Now hack Number 2 is as important as, even more important than, hack # 1 and just as simple.
You’ll need to knock on the door of the neighbours of the property you intend on buying, have a friendly chat and ask questions about how they find noise, or anything else for that matter. This is also a good way to find out if you will have nice neighbours!
Don’t let these peaceful COVID times lull you into a false sense of security, once life returns to normal you could have a potential noisy problem on your hands, and hopefully today’s tips will help you to avoid those.
